Success for Team Mole Valley at Specsavers Surrey Youth Games
120 young sporting stars aged 7 to 16 shone for Team Mole Valley at this year's Specsavers Surrey Youth Games on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June 2017. The team thoroughly enjoyed the experience and achieved a pleasing medal haul over the weekend in a range of sports.Over 315 boys and girls from 29 schools across the district took advantage of the opportunity to get active as part of fun and friendly free training sessions run by Mole Valley District Council. At the end of the eight-week period of training sessions, 120 local pupils were selected to represent Team Mole Valley at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford and Woking Leisure Centre.
Over the weekend, 15 teams from Mole Valley relished the experience of competitive teamwork and showcasing their talents against young people from the ten other Districts and Boroughs in the largest annual sports event in Surrey, where around 1500 participants competed. Team Mole Valley did themselves and the District proud, culminating in a number of medals won across a range of sports:
• Silver: Girls touch Rugby, Judo U13 (individual x 5)
• Bronze: Netball U13 and Girls Football U9, Judo U13 (individual x 5)
Councillor David Hawskworth CBE, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: "The benefits of the Games go far beyond how many medals Team Mole Valley win. To see so many young people take part and enjoy themselves during the training sessions alone is very rewarding. Hopefully many of participants will continue taking part in their chosen sport, a number of them having picked and played that sport for the very first time. Everyone who took part in these sessions, and those lucky enough to compete at the weekend, should be very proud of their involvement in this wonderful annual event."
