Wonderful Occasion for Families on the Bank of the River Mole

Councillor Patricia Wiltshire, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "Mole Valley District Council is delighted to host this popular event, and celebrate World Rivers Day with its many partners who, together, make a significant contribution to the conservation and improvement of the River Mole, and its tributaries. The day is a celebration of what conservation organisations, government bodies, and local volunteers of the River Mole Catchment Partnership, can contribute to the well-being of the river. River Mole Discovery Day is a super blend of educational, and fun activities for all ages to enjoy, set against the backdrop of the river, and a short distance from Leatherhead town centre. If you are fascinated by rivers and what lies within them and along their banks, then this is an event that is not to be missed."

River Mole Discovery Day is a family-friendly, free event, taking place within the grounds of Leatherhead Leisure Centre, from 12noon to 4pm on Sunday 30 September. The venue is between the town and Thorncroft Bridges, and is adjacent to the Leatherhead Football Club. There will be an opportunity to try out a few challenges, so please bring wellies if you want to try river dipping for bugs and fish with the experts. There will be some short guided walks, looking at some of the features nearby, or the opportunity to talk to anglers and canoeists who use the river for enjoyment.

The banks of the river provide the perfect opportunity to spend the afternoon enjoying a picnic, messing about on the river, or getting your face painted on the day. If all this weren't enough, River Mole Discovery Day will be hosting a raffle. This will be in place of the Leatherhead Duck Race which was, unfortunately, cancelled in July. The ducks that have been sponsored over the past couple of months will be used. The winner of the Duck Trail will also be announced, with a number of prizes kindly donated by local businesses up for grabs.
