Response to Draft Gatwick Airport Master Plan 2018 Consultation
Councillor Charles Yarwood, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategy and Assets, said: "Having comprehensively reviewed the draft Master Plan, Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) has now submitted a formal response to Gatwick Airport Limited's consultation that addresses the three outlined growth scenarios.
"MVDC is supportive of any potential growth within Gatwick's existing boundaries as a one runway and two terminal international airport. The Master Plan outlines economic benefits to the wider area that outweigh the relatively modest environmental impacts. It strikes an acceptable balance between the airport's ambition to grow and the need to respect the living conditions of communities that surround the airport.
"The outline proposal to bring the emergency runway into use for departing flights, alongside the existing runway, raises significant concerns. An absence of evidence relating to the impact on noise, air quality and surface such a scheme could bring leaves MVDC unable to reach a definitive and informed position without these essential details being clarified further. MVDC opposes proposals to continue to safeguard land for a new fully operational runway, which would have a significant impact on the environment and quality of life for residents in Mole Valley."
