Dorking CRC Update from MVDC Leader

Councillor Vivienne Michael, Leader of Mole Valley District Council, said: "I am pleased to learn that Surrey County Council's Cabinet has agreed to defer the proposed closure of the Dorking Community Recycling Centre (CRC) pending more careful consideration of the impact on Mole Valley residents.

"Mole Valley District Council is unanimously opposed to the closure and, when I met with Surrey County Council (SCC) Leader, Councillor Tim Oliver, recently I pointed out that if the Dorking CRC were to close, it was possible that residents in some parts of the District would have to travel more than 30 minutes to reach one of the County's other CRC sites.

"SCC's decision to defer the closure will provide us with the opportunity to review the work SCC has undertaken to determine journey times and to ensure that they have fully considered the true impact on our residents.

"Disappointingly, the future of Mole Valley's Children's Centres remains less clear at this stage but I should like to assure residents that we will be doing all we can to work constructively with SCC to find a solution that safeguards the provision of invaluable services to our communities".
