Claire House and James House Planning Application Approved
Key first step for Transform Leatherhead - Last night Transform Leatherhead's Claire House and James House redevelopment proposal obtained outline planning consent. The application considered the access, layout and scale of the redevelopment of the site off Bridge Street currently occupied by partly vacant 1970 office blocks.
Councillor Bridget Kendrick, Cabinet Member for Projects said, "We are pleased this essential first step has been taken towards delivering a key project for Transform Leatherhead's Riverside Quarter. The new development will bring many public and community benefits to Leatherhead including new public realm improvements, community space, local housing, fresh heritage interpretation and renewable energy improvements.
"We understand, however, there are still concerns within the community regarding the height and impact on the setting of the historic Grade II* Listed Running Horse Public House. The amended proposal has taken many of these concerns on board and we are glad that the scheme has the approval of Historic England and the Environment Agency and now the support of the Council."
