Get Involved in Leatherhead Leisure Centre Skate Park Refurb

Skate park users and local residents are invited to take part in a public consultation which marks the first stage of Mole Valley District Council's plans to refurbish the skate park facilities at Leatherhead Leisure Centre, ready for spring 2020.

Mole Valley District Council (MVDC), with support from Transform Leatherhead, has turned its focus to the skate park at Leatherhead Leisure Centre following the well-received improvements seen at Kingston Road Recreation Ground in Leatherhead, when new equipment was installed in 2018 for skateboard, scooter and BMX riders to enjoy.

With aspirations to modernise the 12-year old equipment and review the layout and size of the existing facilities at the leisure centre, users of the skate park and local residents can get involved in the first round of public consultation and let MVDC know what they would like to see change at the site. The feedback received will help inform a design brief which will then be sent to specialist companies. A second round of public consultation will follow once initial designs from those companies are received.

Visit www.molevalley.gov.uk/llcskatepark and have your say by Wednesday 31 July. Alternatively, hardcopy versions of the short questionnaire will be available to pick up and complete at the leisure centre's reception, MVDC's Pippbrook office in Dorking, and the HelpShop in Leatherhead.

Councillor David Draper, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: "Following the overwhelmingly positive feedback received with regards to the improved skate park equipment at Kingston Road Recreation Ground, our next project to refurbish the facilities at Leatherhead Leisure Centre couldn't come soon enough. We want to create a skate park and accompanying facilities that will challenge and delight skaters for years to come.

"There is a really exciting opportunity for the users and local residents to help shape the new facilities. We hope to attract people who may not have previously considered testing themselves on a skateboard, scooter or bike to give it a go. Our continued investment in play facilities across Mole Valley helps to inspire young people to keep, or start being, more active whilst having fun and socialising."
